Maidstone Glasgow Manchester Real Living Wage employer 70+ years in business

A career with a clear route through it

STA has been recovering debt for over 70 years. Our teams work across Maidstone, Glasgow and Manchester, covering operations, collections, legal, finance, marketing, IT, compliance and people, and whatever your discipline, you can see how your work lands.

People join us from all sorts of backgrounds and build careers in the specialism that suits them. Your qualifications are funded and your progression is agreed with you, not decided around you.

Real ownership, early

You are trusted with your own work early and see it through to the outcome, rather than handling one step of something you never see finished.

Training that's built in

Our in-house training team runs induction, role-specific and regulatory training, and our Training & Development Officer was named Significant Contributor at the National Contact Centre Awards 2023. Professional qualifications relevant to your role are funded.

A regulated business to learn in

FCA authorised, CSA member, ISO 9001 and 27001 certified. You learn to work to a regulated standard, which is a skill that travels with you.

Life outside work

Socials, sports and fundraising run all year. Our charity match raised £5,660 for Heart of Kent Hospice, with most of the office either playing or on the touchline.

Progression you can see

Managers and directors across the business started in entry-level roles here. When a position opens, we look inside the building first. We also take on apprentices in some teams.

Real Living Wage

We're an accredited Real Living Wage employer, so pay keeps pace with the real cost of living, not just the legal minimum.

Inclusive by policy

Our equality, diversity and inclusion policy covers all nine protected characteristics, and it's part of how we hire and promote.

Teams close enough to ask

Open-plan offices where you can walk over and ask rather than raise a ticket and wait.

Questions candidates ask us

Do I need experience in debt recovery? +

Not for most roles. We hire for attitude and aptitude, then train the specialism — whether that is collections, credit, compliance, marketing or IT. Plenty of the team arrived from an unrelated field.

Are all the roles customer-facing? +

Some are. Our Glasgow contact centre speaks with individuals about student and consumer accounts, and our commercial teams speak with finance teams about invoices they already recognise. Many roles, in IT, finance, marketing and legal support, aren't customer-facing at all.

What are the hours and the hybrid pattern? +

It depends on the role and office. Contact centre roles work set shifts, and many office roles are hybrid once you're through probation. Each vacancy sets out its own pattern.

Are there checks because you are FCA authorised? +

Yes. Because we are an FCA-authorised and ISO-certified firm, offers are subject to standard identity, reference and background checks. We run them alongside your notice period so they rarely delay a start date.

Nothing suitable is listed. Can I still apply? +

Please do. We keep speculative CVs on file for six months and a fair number of our hires arrived that way, ahead of a role being advertised.

Send us your CV

Speculative applications are welcome. Tell us what you are good at and we will tell you honestly whether we have something coming.
