Tracing individuals
Need to find someone? That's UK Tracing.
Tracing individuals is handled by UK Tracing, our specialist tracing business and a trading style of STA International Limited. Gone-away debtors, absconded tenants, beneficiaries and lost customers, located by a dedicated team of trace investigators.
UK Tracing at a glance
STA Tracing finds gone-away individuals through UK Tracing, and tracing is built into our recovery workflow so a case carries on when a debtor moves. It is for creditors who have lost touch with a debtor, a tenant, a beneficiary or a customer. UK Tracing also runs bulk tracing for large files, priced per record. Individual traces are no trace, no fee: a standard UK Tracing trace is £30 + VAT per successful trace, or £35 + VAT when it is part of a recovery. STA International is FCA authorised, has been a member of the Credit Services Association since 1995 and holds ISO 9001 & 27001.
Bulk tracing
Tracing a whole file, not one person?
UK Tracing also runs bulk tracing for organisations that need to update or check thousands of records at once. From a few thousand to a million or more. Send us a file. It's matched against multiple data sources and comes back with updated details and a confidence score on every record.
What it does
One file in, updated records out. Plus data cleansing for CRM and customer files that have gone stale.
- Address updates and verification
- Gone-away identification
- Deceased checks
- Phone and email append
How it works
Your file comes in securely by SFTP and is matched automatically. Records that fall below the confidence threshold can be manually researched by the UK Tracing trace team, as an add-on. The speed of automation, with an investigator on the hard cases.
Who it's for
Teams working through big files.
- Financial services firms running remediation or redress programmes
- Building societies and banks with gone-away customer programmes
- Investment and pension providers reconnecting with customers who are owed money
- Anyone cleansing a large customer or debtor file before a mailing or a recovery campaign

On consumer and education ledgers, a gone-away isn't an exception. It's a predictable share of the file, so tracing runs inside the recovery workflow rather than alongside it. When an account shows gone-away indicators (returned mail, a dead number, an address that no longer matches the data), it goes to our trace team and comes back with a verified address to carry on against.
Triggered by the file, not by you
No separate instruction, no second supplier, no weeks of a case sitting still while someone decides whether to place a trace.
Standard on higher and further education ledgers
Student addresses go stale faster than almost any other ledger. Term-time addresses, graduation, withdrawal mid-year, international students who have gone home. We expect it and build for it rather than returning the file as untraceable.
The same standard either way
Two independent datasets must confirm an address before we act on it, in line with the CSA Code of Practice. Overseas subjects go to the same international network we use for cross-border collection.
